Hi. I'm moving to Birmingham as a new base. Where are the nicest places to live while I find my feet?

Dodge Erdington......although it's not far from the airport. Coventry has some nice areas. Not a far drive at all.

Solihull, Warwick, Kenilworth, Leamington Spa.

I live in L. Spa but they're all decent places to live and commutable to BHX.

Solihull - Knowle and Dorridge in particular are very nice if you buy into the whole 'middle-class-suburbia' thing. Good schools, nice pubs, good parks...

Between Solihull and Warwick you'll find plenty of smaller villages and hamlets (Lapworth, Hatton, Honiley etc) which would suit if you wanted somewhere a bit quieter (although maybe not in HON!)

All can be quite expensive compared to the rest of S. Bham though.

Having said that, I'm looking for tenant(s) for a 1 bed brand new city centre apartment (with parking) if you're looking for short term :ok:

you can get to BHX in under 45 mins from virtually any town along the M6 right down to the M1.. so Rugby, Lutterworth, Nuneaton (dont go there) and Coventry (I wouldn't go there either) are all possible - plus many small villages dotted around the M6/A5 corridor. Some of which are quite nice. Spend a day driving around - see what you think.

Don't live anywhere which requires you to travel along the M6. Just think of how bad the traffic is at rush hour.

M6 - A14 Gives you Market Harborough, and all the rural villiages of north Northamptonshire.

Beautiful countryside without the Cotswold tourists, and good value for money.

45 minutes to BHX from 'harborough.

PS. The southern end of the M6 is just fine. Do not travel north on the M6 if u want to retain your sanity!

Nothing wrong with the City Centre either - plenty of central apartments around Brindley Place and easy access to/from airport either via the train - 10mins or via the Aston expressway/m6 - takes me 20mins.

Hi Pidge.

When I was with Maersk the "in" places appeared to be Henley in Arden or Stratford.

Can't think that Mkt.Harboro' is exactly handy for BHX !
Leicester East or Sywell maybe !!!!

Anyway methinks that you have connected for a suitable pad in
Central Brum ( where the action is )

Good luck. Enjoy.
Anywhere's better than a LHR base !!

Stratfords great, also try
Henley (in Arden) and any of the South Warwickshire villages.
It's a bit pricey though...but you're an airline pilot, you can afford it!:D

Hmm, the whole of Coventry damned, as usual.

:D

The Southern side of Coventry is pretty good - Earlsdon, Green Lane, Finham, Stivichal and Kenilworth Road are all quite green and suburban and not that far from the City Centre, which isn't green and not very suburban, but showing some improvements - Earlsdon has a nice centre with some good pubs & restaurants & is near the A45 so you can get to BHX in about 10-15 minutes by car (Not usually very busy). Very expensive property prices, but worth it. Close to Warwick Arts Centre as well, which has a lot going on. Preferable to over-rated places like Leamington Spa & Warwick IMHO.
