Tim Clark to resign from Emirates?

I have been here too long to not ignore rumours. Within EK, if a rumour is heard, there is generally some truth behind it. Just this week I have 'heard' from three independant sources that Tim Clark is resigning, or has resigned. Has anyone else heard this?

If this is true, we have just lost the second of the board of directors. Dermot Manion resigned earlier this year to join Aer Lingus as their CEO.

Have heard the same myself from 2 sources, there was some talk of funny deals with airbus and not hedging the fuel price.

Whatever tim does with suppliers or vendors is solely done on the basis of the instructions he receives from higher up.

I think the rumour started after TC recently bought a new house in Blighty - and someone added two and two together and (perhaps) came up with five as their answer.

If we had to rely on your findings on how top management in EK or elswhere works, we'd have a riot.

Facts prime not rumours, I'd like to see you in Tim's shoes one day making the decisions he does and bringing this airline to where it is now, that's not rumours it's facts.

If it's "fact" then there would be a hint of concern, with Dermot Manion gone and the rumour of Gary Chapman possibly for CEO of Air NZ (I would be v happy for him to take the reins of EK) then something is up. No ****. Never met Dermot, met Gary and always heard positve things about him and had Tim up on flight deck for a while and have to say I was impressed with the man and his knowledge. Excuse me for the guys that have direct bad experiences with him but this was not mine. Sometimes I listen to the troops esp new ones mouthing off that "so & so" never visit the flight deck...well did you politely /personally invite them would be my question. Anyway that's not what you asked! The negative would be that we would have lost 3 leaders...better the devil you know and all that with all the competion out there (internally & externally) OR they are super smart cookies and sowing there moles in other airlines / parts of the world!
If I had a dirham to bet then I would support the later! Food for thought.

You are spot on, as usual!

There can be little doubt that Tim has had a huge influence on the success of EK. However, his 'cut their ba**s off' style of management approach has defined the management and HR culture in this airline.
If he leaves, we lose his entrepreneurial skills and business acumen, but the management culture will remain as it is now throughly ingrained.

Had it not been for the above mentionnes EK would have been in the doldrums GF and EY are in now, they have given direction and have left an organisation envied and copied elswhere.

The mere poor performance of certain other managers and VPs is not of their own making, but that of having to deal sometimes with variables beyond their control, AAD and a few others are a perfect example of this.

Despite all the cuts to streamline the operation EK remains the best employer in the region and by far the best airline, index to index. When you read and deal with some of the other issues raised in regard to the other regional carriers, you will see what I mean.

Check out EY, with all the money, yet they cannot establish any internal policy or vision, most of their management comes with a past that is shocking...... and I do not even wish my ennemies a position there.

QR, EY and GF eat your heart out it will take you yonkers to get to half of what EK is, and even then you will still be behind.

Surely I can't be the only one who has put the champagne on ice even for the remotest possibilty that TC may be leaving the building?

He may have been in the seat as EK has grown in such a phenominal fashion over the past few years BUT he is also responsible for the managerial 'style' of fear and suspicion which is eating away at EK from the inside.

And where exactly are we now? Are we in good shape to survive the next few years as fuel prices rise and competition increases? Can we afford to lose cabin crew, pilots, engineers at the rate we are and continue to provide a 'world class service envied the world over'?

When TC was talking tactics over new aircraft orders and routes on the outside, others were screaming 'logistics' and the inability to support such an expansion on the inside. All departments continue to make cut backs where investment is desparately needed.

The problems currently faced at EK will take more than polished shoes and hat wearing to fix and the departure of TC may be one step in the right direction away from the dogma of the past to a more creative, sustainable & positive future. MHO.

Well said, I'll have a drink with you. Only problem is the goose they replace him with will probably be even worse if you go on the usual form. Good comment on the climate of fear and the like. Like TCAS he is taking advantage of his employees knowing that in this employment landscape he can. It breeds a culture of yes and middle managers who know few ways to advance their claims other than cutting costs. Unfortunately there isn't a business in the region that's different and that is probably why most will struggle when the oil dollar disappears.

Seems there are different opinions about TC. Never met him, but I am sure he has talents. But lets not forget we have grown big in a periode without serious competition. Now we are being pressed from many sides. Before EK would whisper "we need pilots" and all flights would be overbooked with candidates.
Today many look at all options in the gulf, and there are other players.
Lets kip our hats to whoever build this airline. But the one that can gain market shared in this new ballgame deserves an even bigger...eh!...hat!!
Competing with european airlines is not so difficult, because our labour costs are a third or less than theirs.
I think than an airline like Etihad will be around forever, because going under is not a option in AUH.

Keep moaninng, perhaps to see things better you should get AAB or Salim Al Salmi from EY to replace him for a couple of days for a real taste of life like sucking your finger after you had it stuck in your ear, then you will realise that TC is not too bad after all.

I agree with you and in this part of the world you do not have to look further than 150 kms up the road to see disaster in the making.

EK as a group should thank their stars for TC, GC and the OBE'ed MF, although I am not so sure about the Gibbons effect in all of this, it has a tendency to distort the image.......
