Non Brits and the BA DEP

Hello!

I am considering applying for the BA DEP. I do satisfy all the requrements, but I'm not a Brit (though an EU national) and I don't live in the UK. I know they have this equal opportunities disclaimer, but I'd like to know if it works in practice. Are there any non-british nationals hired?

Be aware that the verbal reasoning test is quite difficult for UK natives to pass. I wouldn't care to try it in a foreign language.

However, if you impress otherwise, I think they may over-look a mediocre score on the verbal reasoning.

So long as you have the right to work in the UK (work permit or EU passport), you should be fine.

P.S. Can anyone tell me what are the actual hours of the guys getting hired? (both s.h and l.h)

Guys getting hired range upwards from a few hundred hours or so, some of which only have a little turboprop time. Anyone with over 2000 hours, 1000 of which is on heavyish jet will likely get 777.

Any chance of getting the 777 with no >25T jet time? Are they strict on that? I have ~2000 hours with ca. 1000 on ATR and some (about 130) on the EMB-145. I'd do everything to get my hands on the triple seven :}

Mediocre is to mean, the average for Brit applicants who have been exclusively exposed to English throughout their lives. The test looks for the recognition of minute implications in a piece of text. I was told many Brits fail this test.

I think it would be reasonable for the assessors to make a bit of an allowance for the fact you are (very) fluent in more than one language; a useful thing.

Hey, I know, was just kidding... :} You're probably right that the test may be tough, especially for a non native (not to mention all the other tortures they have prepared). I hope they'll at least let me try :D

G'Day Smola go for it, I just recently got hired and the English test worried me the most. However you can get some help from an English teacher ( try yellow pages etc ) it is well worth it. Good luck with filling out the application. Take the whole process Step by Step Bro.

I am a European too, and was hired for the 777 (I have 4000+ hrs on commercial jet).
It is absolutely true that the verbal reasoning is THE most difficult thing in the selection process, although I believe most is decided on the interview (just a personal judgement).

But hey, why on earth wouldn't you just try?;)

When invited to the interview and tests, BA will send you some example questions (just a few though).
Via the above link, you'll find some more.

Ordering a practice book via Amazon.com normally takes only a couple of days and may be worth considering...
