Hi

I have a Maxtor 4D040H2 IDE hard disk which has recently got
corrupted.

To recover the data, I had an empty external hard disk unit.

I plugged the IDE hard disk into the unit and then connected the unit to the USB2.0 bay.

Depending on where I put the jumper settings, I get different error messages - all which cause the computer to crash.

When I set the jumper to master, the USB drive is recognised, the
hard disk is recognised, but before it can map the disk as a drive,
either the blue screen of death appears or the system reboots.

Attaching it internally as a slave yields similiar results.

Anyone had this problem before ?

Tks

I have a Maxtor 4D040H2 IDE hard disk There's a known fault with these and their smaller cousins.

The data can be recovered by most data recovery firms.
