Against all the odds I've managed to get some leave at the end of October. After three years in West Africa (where the locals had eaten all the big game) my wife and I were always promising ourselves a safari, then she gets herself pregnant! Now the kids are off our hands we want to finally realise our dream.

I got to thinking, who better to ask that those who live down south and/or fly the tourists around. Any suggestions could make two old folk very happy.

If it's a flying safari you are interested in, then try Hanks Aero Safaris at selfflysafari.com Not cheap but very proffesional and comes with my recommendation.

As far as game goes, nothing beats the Okavango Delta in the wet season. Awesome, but expensive.

The Kruger Park in South Africa is reasonably priced with good facilities if you want to drive yourself.

are specialists all over Africa, even where there is game left !

I'd recommend Zambia and the South Luangwe National Park where it still looks like National Geographic or 'Out of Africa' with herds of stuff rather than one zebra and a duiker per day...

For all in one:

Beach, Winelands and Safari go to www.execheli.com and give them a shout. They are well organised and have the best tours around in Cape Town.

Get a quote from them.

would have to agree with a previous reply, nothing that I have seen beats the Okavango Delta!Get ahold of Mike Gunn or Pete Sandenburg, at Delta Camp, or Instwi camp, they have various rates according to budget.. must go in the wet season though..suspect you may have played a role in the latest family addition?? feel free to PM me, i used to work there a number of years ago, but may have some contacts for you.

Would agree that Botswana is awesome, not sure about the "wet season" though. Best itme is May-October. It starts to become very hot from October onward.
