How does your QA department act?

1) Does it still practice Quality Control or does it apply QA as specified in JAR 145?
2) Does the department cave in under commercial or does it stand its ground?
3) Does the department support the engineer?
4) Does the department act realistically or do you feel stifled by its strictures?
5) How many are you are currently working in a QA department?
6) How many of you would like to get out of the QA department?
Please do not name individuals or organisations. Polite answers, please!

1) They tell us that Quality Assurance is what they do, Quality Control is the rest of us making sure that we've done everything properly in the first place - this has been the viewpoint of most QA departments I've encountered in 26 years of plane mending.

2) It stands its ground - bravo!

3) Yes, when he is right, or if he's made an error that was not intentional or malicious.

4) Referring to 1) they don't impose, just keep an eye on us.

5) Not me.

6) See 5).

Polite enough?

One company I know, the question would be posed what is the difference.

Another, operating under JAR-OP3 the question would be posed, do they actually have one????

It is one area which seems to be neglected time and time again. It seems that it is usually only the bigger organisations who have got their finger out of their proverbial bottoms who have got it all sorted and functional.

(I am on the shop floor now, but have done my stint in Quality, and by God am I glad. Best decision I ever made!!!)

Bus,

It would be very interested to compare the answers given by the QAEs and the answers given by the AMEs in any single organisation. Sometimes one side's perception of themselves differs considerably from the perceptions of the other side. When perceptions differ, the quality department will try to control, regardless of the regulatory environment and such control is only as good as the controllers. If the two sides' perceptions can be brought in line with each other, cooperation and a common objective ensue and quality becomes self-assuring.

Edited to correct spelling errors. (Some QA departments are very strict about such things. As you know!)

Unfortunately, the question would need to be modified in the interest of accuracy of answers.

The answers I would give generically for the department, is very different to those for the idividuals in the department on most of the questions. Now it becomes a question of poor management policy, or guidance when that is taken into account.. .Generically 1, Jar145. . 2, Yes. . 3, No. . 4, Stifled badly. . 5, I do not, about 25 do. . 6, I know a couple personally

Specifically 1,JAR145. . 2,Most stand their ground until undermined by Mngmnt. . 3,Individually, Yes. . 4,When the opportunity for flexibility is available to them. . 5,as above. . 6,as above
