Fantastic, Alan.. Was Ace there? Must go there some year, but always get severely put off by the thought of the traffic jams!

He was indeed.... in the tower as always (we didn't get time to go up this year..... also we all know that a constant stream of visitors can be annoying!)

He did get the GMC guy to tell us off for not meeting up... :(

On the DATIS was his dulcet tones in the background.....! :)

I think that they are getting to grips with the traffic jams now. Much more organised.

Nice pics AlanM :D

I arrived just before 8am, no traffic problems at all on the way in.

Left at about 6, bit slow-moving in places, but was still at the M4 within about a half-hour of leaving the Car Park.

Great day for it yesterday, huge crowds slowly toasting where I was.

Looked like there was a good party in full swing at the Vickers Funbus when I left (on the stbd wing! - too hot inside I guess)

Top pics Alan! Unfortunately mine were all blurred and half of them were just blank sky as the jets were moving too fast!!!

Just wondering though, has was it flying in and out of there? I thought about it myself. How much was the landing fee, slots times etc?

Cheers.

Probably easier to get a landing slot at Gatwick than Fairford!! :)

Not impossible - though they only tend to open it up to people connected with the show/sponsors etc.

Whilst not that complicated in terms of flying - you do have to make sure you get it all right otherwise you will (a) look a numpty in front of 100 000 people with air band scanners (b) annoy the busy controllers.

Alan

First time I've seen your pictures on the website and I must say they rival some of the others in the "Aviation History & Nostalgia" forum. I must say that this is the first year in 8 that I have missed, really wish I had gone but I'll be back there next year. The last shot of the airfield just shows the sheer size of the show. Superb pictures.

Alan - Did you not fly there then? I though from your last photo that it was taken in the evening whilst in the climb after dep from Fairford?

My old man could have helped with the slot, but I couldn't hire an aircraft from my flying school for the whole day and only clock-up 45 minutes going to and from Staverton!!

We did indeed fly in.

First of all great shots, well done and thanks for sharing them with us.

was that a Red Arrow pilot wearing a green grow-bag instead of the obligatory red posing suit. I bet he changed it before going to the post-show party; heaven forbid someone might think he was 'just another pilot'.

I was there on the Sunday. It was the first time I have attended an airshow in over 10 years. I will not leave it as long again, and your superb photographs reinforce that for me. Thank you.
