Rumour only. Apparently the MiG 17 bogged it's nosewheel while taxiing at Goulburn and the pilot tried to blast his way out of the rut forgetting that at high power a jet efflux can be lethal. Damage done to nearby hangar and windows broken. If true, sounds like questionable airmanship?

Didn't know we had any -17's in Oz. Confirm a Mig-15?

Is it worth displaying such gross ignorance just to pipe up and have a say and remind us all you're part of the scene, stonefish???

No it doesn't have an afterburner.

No you wouldn't use the burner to help taxi if you did have one.

No you wouldn't even come close to full dry thrust to get out of a bog either.

This story sounds like BS.

I can't talk for the abovementioned aircraft in particular but, in general, the MiG-17 was the first Soviet fighter to have an afterburning engine.

From the "Goulburn Gazette":--
Local engineering and construction company is in the process of designing an aircraft hangar fitted with an after-burner,a spokesman was quoted "At least the hangars will now have a fighting chance".........

I confess. I didn't know the -17 had an afterburner. It was the usual flippant Sunfish remark. I obviously just got lucky.

I hope everything is resolved in the interests of SAFETY, which of course is our prime responsibility.

I'd say game set and match to Sunfish.

I saw Sunnies comment as droll humour. If scrubed didn't get it then my case rests.

scrubed blazingly quick reflexes saw it as an opportunity to win points against Sunny.

I think HRH Phil the Greek, called it orthopedontistry. :}
