I notice from the Channel Express website downloadable application form that they ask for number of attempts at initial CPL and IR. Does it really have an influence on a persons application?

Depends on the employer too.

I suppose its the issue if you have two similar CV's in the hand and you have to decide on one....

I think its a bit unfair to ask a question like that as there are so many variables on an IR or CPL test which can influence the result.

I thought Channex only take type rated pilots so I find it surprising they ask?

Channex/Jet2 recruit on to the 737 through a type rating self sponsorship scheme, they are looking for people who will have the best chance of achieving the required standard. This information should allow them to filter out marginal candidates, but as we all know past performance is not allways a good indicator of future success.

s'funny that, I heard of a guy who was taken onto the Jet 2 SSTR scheme who had needed 4 attempts to pass the IRT. Mind you, he did come through the Oxford APP scheme....

Friend of mine recently taken on by Channex at age 39 with 500-odd hrs for their type-rating scheme. He was former ATC with good, first-time passes along the way.
