I've been hearing some things about QR lately, and was just wondering if any Qatar pilots/flight attendants could clear some of these up:

1. Is it true that management no longer allows pilot and cabin crew member briefings before flight. Any reason provided as to why?

2. Is it true a pilot got fired for not wearing a hat? Isn't there some sort of union/group that voices the pilot concerns to management (something like an ALPA)?

Lastly, what is a typical monthly schedule like for a QR pilot? How many days away, and days home? 15 on / 15 off, 20 on / 10 off, etc. Just any typical monthly trip. Are there any minimum days off guranateed per month?

1. Is it true that management no longer allows pilot and cabin crew member briefings before flight. Any reason provided as to why?.....................................Not enough briefing rooms available, too much congestion in the small imigration and screening area when going to the aircraft. but the captain will still brief the CSD and CS once on the airplane. So yes is the answer to your question but it just does not really help the CRM any with this no group briefing. You will have to try harder to do your own CRM and make the best of it.

2. Is it true a pilot got fired for not wearing a hat? Isn't there some sort of union/group that voices the pilot concerns to management (something like an ALPA)?..................... PPRUNE is the union, all chit chat and blah blah blah here on the PPRUNE but the word ALPA is not in the Arabic dictionary. Union is not either. The hat story I think has some truth to it (years ago) but it was the straw that broke the camels back of a guy that had a long record. Now bear in mind a long record at QR is only, maybe one more incident and that is a long record.

Lastly, what is a typical monthly schedule like for a QR pilot? How many days away, and days home? 15 on / 15 off, 20 on / 10 off, etc. Just any typical monthly trip. Are there any minimum days off guranateed per month?...........................You will only get 8 days off a month and may get 9 if you are lucky or the rostering have no other choice due to a limitation you need to have a day off. you will get 15 days off a month when you are on leave, or if you are on sick leave but NEVER will you get 15 days off. You do have the flights that depart late at night and then you will arrive back to Doha in the early morning hours at the end of a trip so if you want to count those days as a day off, then you can look at it that way.
Rosters will vary from fleet to fleet, seat to seat, position to position and this will vary from month to month depending on the amount of resignations and also pilots/cabin crew being transfered or upgraded. That question is hard to answer and give you a precise answer. The airline is expanding rapidly and the pilots and cabin crew are working very hard in this "TRANSITIONAL PERIOD" as it is called (longest transition I have ever seen)

All in all the airline is changing and will continue to change. We have been promised things, money, changes and have not seen them yet B.U.T ........... SOON SOON SOON ( we are forever told) it will be better. Slowly slowly slowly the changes come but by time we get a change and try to keep up with the raising rents, departing crew members, what Emirates and Etihad are doing we get the change and the rents have gone up further, more crew have left and Emirates and Etihad have since done another change to their plan.................

Catch up is the way of life
