Whatever became of the island that Dickie bought that he was going to turn into a holiday resort for Virgin staff? I did hear that it couldn't be built on due to flooding. Is this true? Was it just a publicity stunt at the expense of staff? Will Mr. Buzzy go over there and start clearing the land for free? :ooh:

That's what I want to know and nobody at Virgin seems to know a thing.

At this stage it's available to staff and they can make a booking via staff travel. :ok:

“Makepeace” Island is a beautiful 25-acre island off Noosa in the shape of a giant heart.

It currently consists of a Queenslander house, a swimming pool and is five minutes from Noosa itself.

For the nearly twenty five hundred staff who work for Virgin Blue, it is an easy two hour drive from the airline’s Brisbane Head Office.

The island will be developed into an eco-tourism retreat for Virgin staff both in Australia and worldwide and will be a place for them to escape with partners, family and friends.

The existing main Queenslander house will be where all entertainment and meals will be shared. Camping facilities, training facilities and tree-house accommodation will be built to cater for all Virgin staff who can share the pleasures of the Sunshine Coast, one of the most beautiful places in the world.

Other new developments to the island will include nature walks, tennis courts and island activities such as fishing, sailing, water-skiing and other water sports.

The total investment cost is $AU 5-million including development.

Nice. But not quite the flashy 5 star resort with beaches, cocktails and hot and cold running punany that people envisaged......

Isn't it in the middle of a river or something???

Has any of it actually happened yet? I heard it's a mossie-infested mud island with room for half a dozen people to crash. And was turned over as a cash-handout paper-trail for the big-shots to sell off and get rich.
