This is a floow up to a question by KwikPhix posted a couple of days ago.

Far off the mark with the answer. The actual question talked about when servicing a fire bottle with Nitrogen what pressure should you use.

The bottle is filled with BCF or methyl bromide or whatever the extinguishant is. The Nitrogen is the charge gas to ensure that when activated by the suibs via the fire handles the system works effectively. Typically, such system operate at 600 psi, hydraulic accumulators pre-charges at 1000 psi and brake emergency accumulators at 1500 psi. These figures are the significance of the CAA quetions.

Of course you guys having spent many hours walking around these large transport aircraft have seen these gauges every day whilst doing the daily. You obviously paid a lot of attention to it. The problem about using the Jeppesen book for the CAA questions is that it is largely base upon the A&P syllabus. Now that is a very good basic licence but just a little bit out of touch with reality these days.

The best reference for this question is 'Transport category aircraft systems' by Thomas W. Wild, page 202 gives you the answer you seek for enlightenment. (By the way it is based upon the prototypical fire extinguishing systems used on the Boeing 747, Tristar etc. Hardly a system that is hidden by obscurity.
