Reverse EMS

I heard they used EMS helicopters to ferry medical personal from hospitals to the blast sites. Sounds like someone was thinking out of the box. Unlike in states when a doctor landed in NYC on 9/11 in a R22 to help out they had there guns drawn.

We do that fairly often normally. I've taken trauma teams to multiple pile ups.
Doing this in London yesterday was just on a grander scale.

Overall: a good press for helos....should bolster any doubters about the use of air ambulances for the next few years to come.

An impressive statistic that affirms the wisdom of airlifting so many doctors to the scenes and one I hope will not change is that of the many victims taken to hospital only one has died.

The London HEMS system is based primarily on delivering a medical team to scene (Trauma Doctor (usually Accident & Emergency specialist or Anaesthetist) + specialist Paramedic).
The patient will then be taken by the most appropriate means to the nearest specialist hospital relevant to their needs.
I understand that on Thursday 18 Doctors were deployed to various scenes (some by fast response vehicles as some of the sites were close to the Royal London Hospital).
