This 'slash 15 European routes' thing is allegedly pure speculation by the beeb - and the parts of the interview shown on film for the 10 o'clock news yesterday did not show RE saying that at any point.

I, however, like everyone else who uses this site, do not find it too difficult to read between the lines - especially when they have been highlighted in luminous ink...!

You're right, all this speculation is getting extremely tedious. You've got the Sunday Times writing exclusive articles that did no more than precis the whole history of recent BA...shock, horror, pax numbers fall post Sept 11 (now there's breaking news) and now you've got the BBC with yet more crass reporting and slewed speculation. I haven't got a lot of time for Skippy and his cronies, but he didn't mention any numbers or any types of routes (SH or LH). The BBC's guess work probably has THREADS like this one as its catalyst.

As for the library pictures, Jees; they even used a 737-200 taking off. They're as out of date with their pictures as they are with their reporting.

Nothing is going to happen until the Future Size & Shape bods come up with their stunning conclusions in February, so until then everything is guess work and there's nothing we can do about it until then.

You are making a mistake that a number of contributors make. You think this is the BBC, or a philosophy lecture Cambridge University. It's not.

It's just people socialising - passing the time of day in chit chat or anything else that happens to amuse them. The thread was started by the BBC curiously enough, but since there was nothing whatsoever of substance in it, we chose to discuss 747s.

As a pilot I'm sure you like your planes as well as just seeing them as a place of work, as a source of income. There's no harm in that.
