I was only wondering about that yesterday as I was passing the LHR maintanence area. Its looking pretty sorry for itself resting on its belly without the wings attached!

Love that BEA scheme (and the one the 1-11 at Duxford is painted in...)

Good luck with the move, you know, twenty years ago I never thought I'd miss the Trident...

As a bit of Trident fan I think it is great that one is being preserved. The T3 made great noise on take off when the boost engine was used. I was thinking about that looking at the flite deck pic and wondered where the controls for the Boost engine are- there appear to my untrained eye only three thrust levers.

Did the boost engine have a 'throttle' I assumed it did or was it a case of on or off??

Was it really the 22nd Feb 1985 that I last flew Zulu Kilo, back from EDI (and I gave the landing away)?

Back to the question, the Boost engine just had a small switch to control it. T/O and climb if I remember correctly, with a gauge showing the thrust.

Where was it? Well, starting from the top of the throttles (in the photo mentioned earlier) move to the right and the first gauge you come to is the Droop. Next to it, and slightly below is the boost thrust gauge with the control below the gauge.

Quick update, the move will slip a week or two due to TFL (transport for london) not allowing us to close the Bath Road for 2 hours. The police have suggested that we exit via Hatton Cross and use the southern perry,i will update as soon as i have the info. The wing's and fin will be moved within in the next two weeks.

I taxied by G-AWZJ in 1994 heading out of GLA on a Monarch 757.

Back then she looked in a right state. I think its better she has been scrapped, rather than sit around for eons slowly falling to bits in post crash like condition.

She was well beyond any viable restoration IMO.

I taxied by G-AWZJ in 1994 heading out of GLA on a Monarch 757.

Unlikely, as it was at PIK from the mid 1980s in a non flying state. It has now been broken up and the forward fuselage and cockpit is in a museum near Dumfries. Or did you mean the Trident 1 painted up in BAA colours ?? G-ARPP

G-AWZJ was not in too bad condition ,so the fwd fuse was saved G-ARPP was scrapped by a freind of mine ,the cockpit section has been saved and is in the process of restoration in Glasgow.G-AWZO was scrapped at HTF and i have the evidence on film/video G-AWZU was also scrapped around three years ago by a freind again and the forward 20 ft is stored,G-AVFM was scrapped and again a freind of mine has saved the cockpit section and again this has been saved and resides in his garden in Hampshire.G-AWZX was also scrapped by the same guy but the aircraft was knackered and scrapped along with the Comet, the only fire dump Trident's left are G-ARPK at MAN G-SMOKE ex G-AVFG (fuse only) G-AWZS complete half a T2 and a Trident 1.Hope this clarifys the surviviors.:ok:

Oh and while i remember another freind of mine has G-AWZI's cockpit at the F.A.ST. Museium at Farnbourgh, there is also a complete Trident 2E located at Belfast Airport.

Did the boost engine have a 'throttle' I assumed it did or was it a case of on or off??

Back to the question, the Boost engine just had a small switch to control it. T/O and climb if I remember correctly, with a gauge showing the thrust.

The boost engine (RB162) was a bit of a strange motor, it had a plastic axial compressor and case, (except the first comp stage),
To start the engine, bleed air was ducted from the aircraft pnuematic supply and fed directly onto the single turbine disk, (air impingment).
The FCU (Fuel Control Unit) was electrically controlled, 5 or 6 positions.
The oil system was a total loss, using Castrol 3C. Filled from a remote point in the REB (Rear Equipment Bay) with qty gauge.
6,000lb of thrust, no electrical generater.
And to answer the initial question, the main boost engine control was by using switches attached to the main engine throttles, any 2 of the 3 levers determining Take off, climb.
Many night shift hours spent running them as after a few days of non use they used to be a bit tempremental to start.

So do we know when G-AWZK is going to be pieced back together??
Looks a sorry sight with tail on side, engines and wings unattached, etc etc...
