Hi,

Spotted this at Bristol Airport last night, was just wondering what it was? Is it some sort of visibility measure of some sort?

When you do get some good pics Rob, could I respectfully suggest you crop and/or resize them before posting on here?

Your 'Whats this?' pic is not that easy to view at present.

Sure Duckbutt. I'll resize that one now and reupload it.

Cheers,

As already noted, they're to measure RVR and are called transmissometers.

Who had a brain fart and came up with TRANSMISSOMETER then? 'CONDENSATIONDENSITYOMETER' or 'PRECIPITATIONOMETER' would have made more sense.....!!

PRECIPITATIONOMETER

The boring reason might be ...THEY DON'T MEASURE precipitation rather they measure OBSCURATION .... visibility through certain weather phenomena eg mist, fog heavy rain and snow.

Transmissometer...A device used to measure transmission of light through a medium
