League Table

Could anyone point me in the right direction of a UK airport League Table based on May 05's pax figures?

egnxema,

Try cutting and pasting this into your browser window, don't know how to send you there via one of those clever links

http://www.caa.co.uk/default.aspx?categoryid=80&pagetype=88&sglid=11&fld=200505

Failing that, if you go to www.caa.co.uk/erg you'll find all kinds of interesting stuff.

Try opening this:

http://www.caa.co.uk/docs/80/airport_data_prov/200505/May_2005_Provisional_Airport_Statistics.csv

and then saving it in Excel and sorting it in descending order by the column headed "TERM_PAX_THIS_ MONTH) - if Heathrow isn't top you've done it wrong. The data is provisional but shows that 20 million passengers passed through the UK's airports in May!!

20 million passengers passed through the UK's airports in May!!

Yes, although the method of recording data means there is a huge multiplier effect of intra-UK airport passengers. A passenger routing, say, LBA-LHR-LAX-LHR-LBA would appear 6 times in the UK data.

1 departure ex-LBA to LHR
1 arrival at LHR from LBA
1 departure ex-LHR to LAX
1 arrival at LHR from LAX
1 departure ex-LHR to LBA
1 arrival at LBA from LHR.

A passenger making just a routine round-trip between LBA-LHR would still appear 4 times in the count.

And what's the betting LTN will be in 5th place by August?

Quite suprised at NCL handling more than BRS, also suprised at how low the CWL figures are.

Nice to know they can:
a) keep up with the latest airport names (DTV not Teesside!)
b) spell! (Teeside!)

Only 60k left and DurhamTeesValley ;) will have overtaken Guernsey and moved up the table again (recently overtook Isle Of Man too)

That is, assuming we're not overtaken by Exeter and Coventry....

Not forgetting DSA, which should be on this table and climbing up it before the end of the summer.

Watch out for EXT, busy lil place now, likely to get a lot busier when they're sold, should be any day soon.
Has CWL's figures dropped lately, cus their figs do seem really low, much lower than i'd of thought

CWL's figures (both monthly and the rolling 12 month total) have been falling over the past few months, bucking the trend at most UK airports.

These figures represent the rolling total for the 12 month period ending 31 May 2005, and in CWL's case are 6.5% down on the rolling 12 month figures at the same time last year. May itself was down 6% on the previous May's monthly figures.

I don't think that CWL has ever gone through the 1.9 million barrier in any 12 month period. However, this is likely to change quite significantly next year with the enhanced Tui programme, the new Freedom Flights initiative and the expanded Zoom schedule amongst other things.

And surely bmibaby must step up a gear there or watch someone else come in instead.

As for EXT, they seem to be doing very nicely with very high loads on their Flybe sun routes, as well as impressive loads on many of their others.

For example in May they carried 5,900 on their Flybe CDG service, beating CWL's 4,100 with bmibaby, and closing in on BRS's 7,700 with BACx. The million barrier at EXT is looking ever closer.

Incidentally, BRS's CDG service was 25% down on the previous May but whether this is mainly due to no longer having Air France on the route (even though BACx increased their rotations but not to the combined total that AF and BA had in May 2004) or to the competition from down the M 5 is an intriguing thought.
