Dear colleagues,

My employer, a major Dutch airline, is willing to supply us with some kind of handheld computer, which could make our work on the platform much easier. But they want us to sort out how we can prove that we won't use unapproved data for aircraft maintenance purposes.
Some of us have their own psion or texas, but still, they are illegal for storing partnumbers etcetera.
Are there any people out there who have found a way to use these computers without being possibly accused of using wrong data?

Regards, Ballpoint.

There is a bit a kit that does what you say. I was at a CAA Human Factors seminar March 2001, and one of the guys there mentioned such a device being used for fixed wing maint somewhere. It was set up sp that they had the latest info all the time on the job.

Knowing the yanks, it's probably over there where they love all their gimmicks.

You could try emailing David Marx at [email protected] as he might know who mentioned it (he was one of the seminar organisers). His company has a site http://www.davidmarx.com/ mainly involved in maintenance errors in aviation if you need it.

Good luck.
