Dear friends.

I am wondering, if it is possible to buy a Convair type rating somewhere (CV240, 340, 440).

I bet the best chances will be in the US. or in Canada.

Yeah, I understand kind of. Air Atlantique in Coventry England had a CV440 for a while. I think they did there training with Agroar? in Portugal but I dont think either of them have a servicable Cv440 left in service. If you look for "Conc" on the forums he did the type rating so may know more.

There are plenty of CV 580s in New Zealand.

Operators are Air Chatams, and Air freight.

Hi Gravox

In New Zealand they even have the CV5800.

Anyway I am looking for a rating on the radial engined Convairs.

Atlantique have still got their CV440 but it suffered a wing fire during a test flight prior to the C of A which damaged both spars. From what I hear, they can't afford the repair.

Try Swift Air in Spain.

Try CHC helicopters in Cape Town, South Africa (580's). They have 2, and are taking delivery of a few more. I'm sure they will be able to help you with some info. Call Dietlind Lempp at +27 21 934 3693.

ALso try Rovos Air (440's), on +27 11 701 3366.

good luck

Thank you Gulf

I will check it out.

Anybody who knows, if a type rating on a CV 580 is a totally different rating from that on a CV 440 - or if one can do some kind of difference course?

Well, excuse my ignorance, but to my knowledge the 580 is a turbo prop, and the 440 a piston? I assume that would make a difference in the conversion - no?
