Hi all
First post here. Anyone can confirm the rumour we have lost Jo'Berg to South African Airways?
Thanks

QF has not lost Joberg. However the IASC (International Air Services Commission) has just renewed the code share agreement between QF and SA for another year only. They will only allow this codeshare to continue if QF had a 5 weekly service out of Sydney by the end of the year. Hear is a snippet from the article.

The IASC knocked back Qantas's request to renew the agreement for two years by imposing new conditions if the code share were to continue after November 1.
One is that Qantas and SAA add an extra weekly service to South Africa. One reason the IASC renewed the code share was the likelihood SAA would have a monopoly on the Perth-Johannesburg route, where Qantas has no plans to add services.
Qantas executive general manager John Borghetti played down the IASC's concerns. "As well as the direct Qantas and South Africa Airways services, there are several other carriers operating via other hubs," he said.
Mr Borghetti said Qantas was already looking at an additional Sydney-Johannesburg service.

Thanks Pro Golfer

That's what I had also understood, yet a FA who is getting trained for BFirst was told at training that Jo'Berg was going in the next bid period.
More spin doctoring or they really don't know?
Cheers

Definately a 'porky pie' that one. QF is making bucket loads of cash on the JNB run. Average load factors are over 90%. Once the 5th service comes I imagine the 96 hour slip will go and they'll be all 48hrs with one of 72.

"As well as the direct Qantas and South Africa Airways services, there are several other carriers operating via other hubs," he said.

So how many carriers are there between Oz and Jo'burg that don't add about ten hours to the journey?

Yes Solo that was an amusing come back from Borgetti. It just goes to show some of the garbage that come's out of this bloke's mouth. Gee lets go to Joberg via Singapore or Hong Kong. It really is laughable!
