First to be given freedom of the city? That can't be right surely?

I think Stirling was one of the places given City status only very recently, being up until then a town.

Would explain why this award is their first.

Oh yes - and congrats to 43Sqn for the honour!

Some rather ambiguous use of English I fear. First 'freedom' honour for Stirling almost certainly true. First squadron to be given the freedom of a city - probably not but I could be wrong. It is unusual for squadons to receive the honour of 'freedom' - it is more usually bestowed on stations. Indeed, the jobs worths tried to prevent the bestowing of Freedom on 43 Sqn but common sense prevailed.

Good luck to all the Fighting Cocks may you long exercise your right to march the streets of Stirling with bayonets fixed and standard flying unfurled - and a blast of jet noise wouldne go amiss!
