Rumour has it that BA will be placing an order for a large number of 787s at the Paris Airshow. (They'll probably give them to BMed though!!!).

Hmmm. Talking to LCG last week he said he would prefer a mix of 777's. First order for 777-300 then later 777-200LR all dependant on offloading some 747-400's.

We will just have to wait and see..............

Well if BA don't buy 747A there aren't too many other likely takers. The US majors (and Air Canada) are getting shot of the 747 for 777 and the likes of Air France are getting 773s too with strong rumours of ANA doing likewise. BA of course have a decent size fleet of 777s already, and having tried them can't say I felt much difference to the 744 good or bad.

Whether Boeing will want to offer a Trent engined 747A is not known, lots of disparaging remarks on the orders group about RR residual values and so forth.

Other orders: SQ, CX, maybe QF if they don't feel burned by the 744ER and can find room beside the 380s. After that...

Might be some money in an F model too, but that depends on the numbers of 742/3/4s being converted.

Now, if the 380 evac test goes titsup as FOCAL goes to bed every night and hopes then all bets are off, but 747A has to undergo the same test, and under the same conditions.

If I was Mr Boeing I'd keep the rumour mill going about 747A, let Airbus have a pyrrhic victory with the 380 which the rumours have kept the price of down and keep raking in the 773 orders. But I'm not.

Naturally the Boeing fanboys would be apoplectic that Boeing would cede the largest pax plane to Airbus for the foreseeable, but Apple Computer's announcement that they will use Intel processors today shows that business trumps sentiment, especially if you're in business to make money.

Why the reference to BMed???

Not sure if you are talking hypothetically or just sarcastically?

Forgive me for putting 2 and 2 together here and making 6, but the new 777-200LR demonstrator is doing a bit of a world tour around its Paris Air Show visit, and the itinerary takes in Gatwick. Could just be a coincidence, but who knows!
