I have Nero5 (V 5.5) which was supplied with the PC and as far as I recall, when first installed, worked OK. As I never had much call for the software, I didn't bother reloading it after the first re-install of Win XP and just used that provided within the OS on the rare occasion I needed to copy a disc. I have recently tried re-installing Nero on several occasions but it disables my DVD-ROM drive. Inserted discs fail to spin up and if I try to get things moving by clicking on the drive I get the following message:

"E:\ is not accessible. Incorrect function".

As said, I'm using Win XP with SP2. On the face of it, as it once worked correctly some time ago, there would appear to be some incompatibility with SP2.
Any thoughts, Gentlemen?
Thanks, Nota

Win XP with SP2. I think that is where the problem lies, not sure if there is a patch or fix for Nero 5, but the latest edition 6 works with Win XP with SP2.

Have a look at the this fix fix (http://www.nero.com/eng/Support_News_SP2_Packet_Writing_Problems.html) not sure if that will solve it. or try the update here (http://www.nero.com/eng/nero-up_vor.php)

Bingo! Hit the nail on the head there, you did. I had 'Googled' all manner of search terms and succeeded only in confusing myself. Thanks for your efforts on my behalf - all is now sweetness and light!
