Same location, 30 minutes ago -

I spotted the only airworthy B-25H "Barbie III" on a SE heading bound for a weekend of pax-hopping at "sunken" Lunken airport - the pre-CVG municipal airport for Cincy. She was about 4000' and suitably noisy.

Three years ago I had a terrific ride - with a pair of low passes - in this beauty.

You're obviously intent on making us earthbound misfits intensely jealous - still, if you are ever over in Blighty, please do come and have a proper beer with us listners!

A brief history & photos (http://www.cincinnati-transit.net/lunken.html)

This airfield was the site of the original Aeronca factory, a stop on Charles Lindbergh's 1927 "victory tour", and a WWII bomber modification center. It lies in a valley at the confluence of the Ohio and Little Miami rivers, surrounded by hills, hence the "Sunken Lunken" nickname.

Annual flooding (especially the 1937 flood) led to the building of a dike on the perimeter.
