I've got an interview with Air Southwest next week. If anyone here knows anything useful or works for the company please let me know!

Think you'll find they want you as badly as you want them. Lost quite a few guys recently, including applicants in the hold pool, so fairly desperate for crew. Terrible money, but no training costs to you, a nice airline to work for by all accounts, and a very realistic prospect at the mo of a fast track to command. I wouldn't expect too much of a grilling, probably more of a friendly chat to make sure it is what you really want amd that you can accept what is on offer. Best of luck though.

As Maude Charlee says the interview will be a friendly informal chat with the Chief Pilot or Training Manager and one other. No tricks and no tough questions. If you get through this you will have a simulator assessment on the BAC 1-11 at Cranebank. You’re given a basic departure/route to fly to an ILS, or something similar.

If you get the job you'll love it. The people are great, the flying is challenging and the Dash is a fantastic aircraft. Not so sure about fast track command, you'll need a fair few hours for that and a reasonable amount of time practising Plymouth operations.

No training costs, but a substantial bond. The salary is shocking and insulting, which is why people are leaving.

The interview went well and I'm through to the sim check stage! Air Southwest are recruiting for a holding pool at the moment and those successful at interview with be called to the sim when vacancies occur.

Ah that old chestnut! Just like Flybe did back in January, they hold a whole load of interviews to put people in a 'holding pool' to be called forward for an interview. What's the big deal in this just to get people's hopes up and feel an affiliation to the airline who interviewed them? The airlines know how much power they have! I just wish they'd actually decide on recruitment and do a bit of forward planning! Pilots leaving Flybe much to do with the lack of communication and indecision from the management!

This is nothing to do with power over people. The purpose of the holding pool is to have a supply of pilots who have been interviewed and are ready to commence training at short notice. Three First Officers have resigned from Air Southwest in the last four months, and the management know that more will leave in the near future. The interview process itself takes time, and you need to have the new joiner online within three months to replace the leaver, hence the need for the pool. The company only has fourteen FO’s, and if they’re going to leave at the rate on one a month you need to be prepared.

Sorry, I meant they are in a holding pool to be then called forward at a later date for a simulator assessment. What's the point in that? Mate of mine is in this situation with Flybe. He was interviewed in January and is waiting to be given a sim assessment. Poor guy is hanging in there waiting for months and months.

I haven't heard anything about the sim check yet -I'm still very keen to work for ASW but I've not stopped applying elsewhere.

Obviously when you go for your interview you are going to say that all your future career is with ASW.
Believe me - this is as far from the truth as you can possibly get (and the interviewer knows this as well!). Don't forget on the salary they are offering will not be able to provide yourself with shelter and food in what is a very expensive part of the country. Most of the new F.O.s are leaving after about a year. The bond is a serious amount of money which you are going to have to borrow to pay back (will your credit rating take it?)
