For those who had heard my mutterings of late.... I have finally done the deed and quit my air traffic type job. If nothing else, it allowed me that wonderful thread title!!!

I have gained alternative employment, physically closer to the airy-planes than I ever was before....

Just thought I'd tell ya! :p

Well let me be the first, Mr Chips to say Congratulations! on taking the plunge.

And Good Luck in the new job. Hope you have a hell of a lot of fun...

Good luck Chippy. I think that we met at Gatbash One, so if your new job is at all public, I shall need a decent bribe to be dissuaded from outing you.

Are you gonna drive "Car 1" around the field, doing runway inspections and drinking coffee with the boys at various hangars and generally dodging work?

After observing people involved in that pursuit in action at various fields, I have decided it is my ideal cruisey retirement "job" for later on.

Good luck with it, whatever it is.

PS Why "Mr. Chips"?

Why "Mr. Chips"?

You ever met the guy? He's a dead ringer for Robert Donat

Well done Mr Chips a brave move from what most would consider a very secure job.
Hope whatever is nearer the "airy plane" is rewarding.

Awww shucks, thank you for the kind words (but who the hell is Robert Donat???)

Not driving around the airport, nothing as aviation related as that!!

Career in ATC? As far as i was concerned, "career" is a country in SE Asia....

The name? Well, that would be telling (but I am sure I have before!) Mr Chips was a teacher.. I was a training officer in ATC so.. tenuous link/clue for those who knew me (although it appears only one person at west Drayton DIDN'T know who I am!!!)

Yikes .... TO for ATC eh? :ooh: I've got that pleasure currently.

Good luck with the job move. :ok:
