Three years ago I've got my first airline job as regional turboprop F/O for the airline that also operates mid-size, mid-range jets. Now my time has come to move onto bigger plane but my belowed company decided to change the rules of the game a bit. Instead of giving me 2yr bond, now it wants me to pay the costs of type rating. I know people are paying for their TRs but I've always thought they're doing it to land a job with Ryan, Easyjet and such. I'd like to know if there's any airline in EU/Americas/Middle East/Far East/Oz & NZ that requires their pilots to finance their upgrade from regional to mid-range (or mid- to long-range). Methinks some bonding is fair but paying is not, at least in cases where you have to accept pay cuts to upgrade.

Start looking for another job. When you get the new job, tell your current employer to bite you on the arse.
