According to a Times (http://www.timesonline.co.uk/printFriendly/0,,1-2-1603812-2,00.html) article, there were no immigration staff available last Tuesday evening to process a late arriving flight from Brussels. If true, this sounds a little worrying, though I suppose the risk of any evil types sneaking into the UK by this method must be pretty low.

It doesn't surprise me in the least. Some years ago there was an outcry because they stopped having a Customs presence there and passengers were requested to pick up a telephone and speak to somebody if they had anything to declare. Those of us who have to deal with the effects of illegal drugs were less than amused as there are direct flights to Amsterdam from the airport and with nobody to check what was being imported the opportunities for importation of large quantities of such substances were glaringly obvious.
