View Full Version : What am I doing wrong?

I found out yesterday that I'd been rejected by GAPAN for their PPL scholarship scheme. It was sort of expected - after all, I am only one of many - but I was just wondering if anyone could give any advice in completing the application forms so that I can hopefully do better next time round, or indeed when I send in my JN Somers ATPL scholarship form.

I've applied for the PPL scholarship three times now, and am running short of original ideas for what to say in response to their question 'why do you want the scholarship?'. Not asking for anyone to write it for me; just wondered if any previous successgul appliacants could give any useful advice!

Cheers!
Dan

No disrespect to GAPAN, but they have made the selection process much hard for candidates (and probably themselves) by the imposition of this new 100 word limit. I got a PPL scholarship in 2002; without the opportunity to explain my motivation in detail I'm not sure I would even have got an interview.

I'm in a similar position now - I've just been rejected for the instructor scholarship, yet I wouldn't be able to change the "why do you want this scholarship" section for the better because I spent so much time and effort on it.

Therefore my only advice would be to perhaps try improving your CV with some more examples of leadership and achievement over the coming year, and to do some sort of [relatively] low cost flying such as gliding. I had 40hrs gliding when I got my PPL scholarship, and I since I did this at university on a limited budget it seemed to demonstrate my motivation quite effectively.

How that helps, keep trying!

Al

P.S. Have you applied for an Air League Scholarship? The closing date is 30th June and they offer a lot more scholarships than GAPAN!
