An RAF officer who caught an armed robber wanted for a series of raids is to be honoured at a special ceremony this Thursday (05/05).
Wing Commander Mark Smith tackled Daniel Kevin Holland moments after he committed an armed robbery at a home furnishings store in Gerrards Cross on October 13 last year.
On the afternoon of the October 13 at Cargo’s Store, Holland threatened staff with an object concealed in a plastic bag, which he claimed was a gun. More than £300 was quickly handed over and Holland fled the shop into the street closely followed by a member of staff who rushed outside to see which direction he had gone. At this point Mark walked past and the staff member explained that his shop had just been robbed and that the man had a gun.
Mark told him to stay with his wife and said he would see if he could catch the robber. He chased Holland for a short while before catching and restraining him and preventing him from reaching for his weapon. The resident of a nearby house saw what was happening and called police. The weapon turned out to be a claw hammer.
