According to the 'Australian' newspaper the BASI findings on the Qantas accident in BKK are to be released in the next day or two.
The aircraft touched down about 600 metres past the normal touchdown point and aquaplaned off the far end at 80 knots. The procedure of 25 flap and nil reverse thrust after touchdown gets a lot of the blame,as well as crew actions on landing. Other factors are:
Crew not notified of heavy rain.
Crew not notified that another Qantas aicraft had gone around.
Condition of the runway surface. (Anyone who has been to BKK knows that rubber deposits on the runway do not get removed all that often).
Qantas training procedures and CASA,s oversight of them gets a heavy serve as well.
On the evening news the Qantas spokesman said "This is a wakeup call, and we are going to heed it".
The full report will make interesting reading.
