Hi Goldenhawk,

yes, indeed there is a heliport in the City of Cologne. It's placed on top of one of the buildings of the Cologne Fair pretty close to the Cologne Cathedral.

Since it's an elevated helipad, twins only. It's also PPR and no refueling possible. So you might want to go straight for the International Aiport (a little bit expensive though)

A good alternate would be a small airport in the south of Cologne:

EDKB (Bonn-Hangelar)

If you need more info just let me know.

What I want to know is why they built the cathedral so close to the heliport?

Well, TheFlyingSquirrel, in fact they are still seperated by the river Rhine, Cathedral left side, Heliport right side... ;)

Flying Squirrel:
If the heliport approval process in Koln runs as fast as it does in Australia (Sydney in particular), then the heliport application probably pre-dates the start of building on the cathedral!

Only another 940 years to wait for the Sydney heliport to get approved...:{

Sorry about that - it was a variation on an old joke " why did they build the cathedral so close to the station? " Who says the Germans don't have a sense of humour?
