Any truth in the rumour that bmi are considering operating the Heathrow - Riyadh route on an A321 (G-MIDC) instead of the A330?

I thought it was going to be a leased 757ERThat will only be after 6 months, when they pull the A330 off to operate - hmmm, let's see - Heathrow to Ulan Bataar, Mongolia.

The leased 757 (Icelandair) is going onto the MAN - IAD route to free up a 330 which is to operate LHR - BOM (Mumbai) 4 times a week. Riyadh was going to be operated by the same 330 on the other 3 days. Seems commercial suicide to take a full 3 class cabin a/c off a transatlantic route (Which has already seen the route suspended once) and replace it with a leased 757! Still, we apparently don't have the 'big picture!' It's obviously an accountants decision. Looks good on paper but the reality of it will be something much less and can only hurt or destroy the route. Maybe the 321 on the Riyadh route will free up the 330 to operate the MAN - IAD for 2 or 3 days a week or maybe Riyadh will go daily, the 321 filling in the days when the 330 is in Mumbai?

Will the 757 be painted up in bmi colours?

Will the 757 be painted up in bmi colours?

Doubt it!

Maybe it will get some fancy stickers applied to it like the Air Atlantique ATR on the LBA-LCY shuttle at the moment (or not for much longer as the case may be!).

The BMI marketting spods train of thought:

"The ATR principally flies between LBA and LCY. So let's advertise a service that runs from neither." :hmm:

Perhaps it'll be vinylled up to plug the NWI - ABZ route (definitely in my top ten 'how-the-f***-can-that-work' list)

Total bollocks! Rumour was started by the engineers. The route will be operated by A330-200. A good rumour though!

2nd 757 to operate Riyadh route from you know where, could this be something to do with thr recent Indian Talks?
Riyadh route not due to start till Sept could VA and bmi be doing daily Mumbia by then?
Makes you thik they dont give a stuff about Man and all the 330s will be in LHR by 2006. Man just a stop gap till the COVERTED LHR routes take off, tough for the north as usual and lets not forget that no airline can pull traffic from LHR.
Anyone botherd to ask the pax that have to transfer to LHR no wonder they all go to Europe, good old airlines narrow vision beyond belief.
