I recently heard from an ex colleague of mine now
living on the magic island his chances of operating
the widebody for Gulf Air now are very close to zero
over the next two years or so given the Companies
radical new policy of employing non typed guys with
zero airbus time straight onto the 330!!??

For a lot of peoples sake - I do sincerely hope this
is a rumour - nothing more threatening to crew moral
than a lack of direction in ones career... and the
knowledge your Employer has just completely
disregarded your interests.

I was lead to believe the guys on the A320 employed in
the past 12 months were looking forward to operating
the widebodies reasonably quickly, as per the 'career
progression' in GF....

Who moved my cheese....?? Good luck guys.....

Not true.
I just saw a 320 buddy in ops who is going to the 330/340 next month.

It s true of true ... But transfers are still in progress at the same time. Let s say it has been decided to recruit those guys due to a sudden lack of fo on wide buddy...
Nevertheless lot of guys on A320 were stunned , me the first.

What about the expat captains. Any cross overs? Don't suppose so. You have to wonder what hoges and hill will do to the pilot fraternity just to fill the front seats. Anything goes with that lot.

Not completely true...

Transfers still going on...
5 A320 F/Os coming to the big fleet this month and some more to come until the end of the year, together with some skippers...

ia1166, believe it or not, some expat skippers moved to A340, including two former TRI/TRE (one of each)...
by the way, how are things over there? Plenty of "Ice Cleem"???

Cheers, mate!!!

My only concern as new joiner is: the very high price of housing even in the juffair area: 550 BD for a one bedroom flat
and 750 BD for a 2 bedroom!!!!!!!

I cant believe it, this construction ground almost as expensive as London !

And our little allowance is not helping a lot !

Yep, believe it or not, skippers transferred to 340 were expats...!!! BUL/SAF/EGY guy(s)
Glad to hear you're fine over there! Enjoy!

Agree with you. Rent here is very high and housing allowance very low. Plenty of rumours about housing allowance improvement, so far... nothing!
But, being honest with you, BD750 for a 2-bedroom place in Juffair is quite expensive... or maybe your standards are VERY high... with BD 500 you can get a very decent FF 2BR place in Juffair or Mahooz.

Good luck!

ia166 Yep a legion of ex pat skippers from 320 on 330/340 now, lots of your old mates. Just like old times, judging by your number of posts bashing GF you must be on your 2weeks off!

Joejack:

Nobody I know was able to find a 'OK' flat in Juffair for 500 BD...(The only one I heard of, at 500 BD, were unfurnished with no kitchen, no elec, no internet nothing just the flat) I agree with you that the 700 BD flat I mentionned before was 'OK nice' but not 'very nice'. I saw yesterday a 'very nice' 2 bedrooms with a 'real' sea view for 1000 BD... Not speaking of the price at the sea plaza (still in Juffair) starting at 800 BD for a one bedroom...

When did you look for flats ?

I used many different agents so if you know also a good one PM me !

I hope also that we get a better allowance, because, the actual one is really nothing. I end up almost with the same money I had before in Europe ! I tought housing was cheaper in Bahrain !!!!!

Thanks

Fair go vfe. I'm hardly bashing Gulf Air. Just wondering if the expats 320 guys are finally getting a chance at a fleet change. I'm not going to even ask if the 767 guys are getting a chance. i can guess that answer.
Are the short term contract guys still there on the 340? and did the management make good on their promise of an extra 5% pay rise?

ia166 Not sure what the latest on the increase is but we got our 3% earlier this yr and 5% due in June I think. No contractors on 340 but the 330 guys are still there. Usual shortage of trainers to bring guys across from 320 but it is happening slowly. Your concern for the 767 guys is touching, think they may be moving base soon. Hows the DMZ?
