All outgoing flights grounded

All flights departing from Ben Gurion International Airport suspended after routine checks reveal fuel supplied to airlines fails to meet international standards; flights to North America, Far East delayed until further notice
By Eli Senyor

TEL AVIV - All departing flights at Ben Gurion International Airport have been grounded after routine checks revealed the fuel supplied to airlines failed to meet international standards.

Following the disturbing findings, fuel companies decided to refrain from supplying fuel to planes at the airport, prompting the grounding of all flights scheduled to leave Israel Monday night until further notice.

At this time it is unclear when the flights are expected to resume. Meanwhile, airplanes arriving in Israel have been directed to refuel in Cyprus.

Thousands of passengers are reportedly stranded at the airport at this time as a result of the flight delays. More flight delays are expected Tuesday.

Flights to New York, Toronto, and Paris delayed

An El Al Israel Airlines spokesman said the airline does everything in its power to ensure the supply of proper fuels. The spokesman noted that passengers scheduled to depart from Israel contact El Al's call center at 03-9722333. (For those dialing from abroad, the number is 972-3-9722333)

The El Al flights that have been delayed include 075 to Honk Kong, 081 to Bangkok, 027 to Newark, 001 to New York, 105 to Toronto, and 327 to Paris.
