India and UK agree another flight increase

Apparently yesterday the UK and Indian governments concluded a deal to further increase the number flight between the 2 countries, in addition to the new frequencies allocated recently by the CAA (for the UK side). Under the previous new agreement, the number of flights per week by UK airlines was capped at 40. This will change to 56 for Mumbai and Delhi (not clear if this is each or combined), 14 each for Bangalore and Chennai, and 7 to any other Indian city. For Indian airlines Mumbai and Delhi are also capped at 56, with no limits on flights from other cities.

Not quite open skies, but for now probably accomodates all the flights that airlines would wish to operate anyway.

Under the arrangement, the number of flights per week will rise from 40 now to at least 84 by 2006. 56 of the 84 flights will operate between Heathrow and Delhi or Mumbai, the remaining flights will be between the UK and Bangalore and Chennai.
