British Airways are to start 2 x weekly services to the city of Hassi Massoud in Algeria to complement their services to Algiers. Flights will be operated by 737-400 a/c offering club europe and eurotraveller products. It is aimed primarily at the oil business.

Other routes are also being looked at, which fit in with BA's shorthaul strategy at LGW of offering generally leisure services with a few business destinations also, such as Algeria.

Seems as though LGW is booming at the minute??

It is a little more involved. The Algerian CAA fix a non-negotiable fare and at the present it is in excess of £400. For the LGW/ALG sector it only requires a load factor of 20 per cent. BA are looking forward at locations at which fares are set by governments I would suggest. By the way I do not think this is a holiday destination I beleive it has oil-fields to which our US cousins require access. I flew Air Algiers (first class) last year and BA has little to fear from the competition for the moment.
