Just wondering how many JAR type rated pilots are out there with specific aircraft type rating but are not working full time using that type rating.
If you are one of these pilots then please tell us why you think you are not finding work.
As for me, Type: BN2T-4S Defender 4000
1600 TT
500 Turbine
Not working because: Not many BN2Ts. My age. job market maybe.
Cheers

Hi,

I'm probably going to get a bollocking for posting to the wrong forum but what the ****.

I've been looking for a year now and no joy. 4050 hrs, 2500 Fk100, ex KLM and not a sniff of work.

Am thinking of getting a A320 / 737 rating but without time on type I can't really see it getting me anywhere. Would also be interested to hear from anyone in a similar position.

If I had brought a type rating and didn't have a job I'd think I'd be to upset I'd wasted my money to look on PPrune at people who get jobs without paying for type-ratings.

there are no job anyway, whatever you are experienced or not.
airlines are hiring only 10-20 guys a year in comparaison of thousand new coming low time pilots(200h).You have to be extremly lucky to be called. No need to have a type rating. If you are called, they will train you.if you are not called, they will not train you. if you buy a type rating, they will not call you and they will not train you.

spaceman1000,

That's not entirely true.

I personally know of at least 7 low timers who bought their own turboprop or jet type rating. Within a year 5 of them had a job. The other two are still working on it and I do honestly believe that they will get a job within the nearest future...

On your last post, i stood up for you being a little frustrated.

I know it's frustrating but you need to keep more positive.

If airlines are recruiting 19-20 guys a year. Then times that by the number of airlines around the globe/europe, then it's not bad. I hope you were not implying that 10-20 guys (or girls) over the whole industry.

If you are really frustrated, i understand. I am in the same boat. But try not to be so negative.

Why add insult to injury.

Ive just got a job on a TP 5 months after training im low houred and very average!.......

There are jobs around......lots of them!!!

Sending out 100CV's will get you nowhere.....you need to target a few and really stick at em!!

I targeted 3 airlines!......i had an interview with 2 of them and the third was a bit optimistic to say the least!!

So in answer to spaceman.....you are wrong!!

Congrats Rowley.

There was a post recently about doom mongering, but i must admit i am seeing more and more positive things written on here recently.

Its all looking good for my training completion date around Jan 2006!

Hey Flypuppy, is your PM inbox full or summat?? :p

And to reflect the "upbeat" feel of this thread, I got a job, so there must be some out there. As Rowley said, target a few, and work at it, don't just sit back after sending a CV.

If I was to offer a word of advice, you should be spending 5 times the amount of time searching for a job than you spend here, then you might make your own luck.

Well done.

Good advice. I don't think i been persistant enough on the phone, which i intend to change immediately.

Going to focus on about 10 and study the laws of probability.

Although, i think i will leave BA and Virgin Atlantic off the list for a week or two!

ok, let's say, what are my chances to find a job with a type rating and with no type rating (airline train me in this case).

what are my chances to find a job after an Airbus 320 type rating?, after a b737 type rating, ATR, B1900?

who on this forum have found a job after his type rating, who have not find any job.

How long is the t/r valid?6 months. 1 year?. What do you have to do to revalidate it?

what airline are interested by type rated guys?I know eazy is not, rynair not, BA ah ah!,...so who?

what is the problem to do a type rating , cost???

Spaceman 1000,

LISTEN: I did the A320 type rating. I am still looking for a job as the 5 guys who were on my course......

The problem is who you know, not having a rating. I have a friend flying 737, hired with 220 hrs TT no TR but a big contact.

I know eazy is not, rynair not, BA ah

There is a world around UK and Europe.

This is the situation: If you do the rating, you will need hours on type. I decided to PAY for my 300 hrs experience on the A320, I am on a list and I have to wait between 4 to 8 months because other pilots are already waiting. It's creazy, even if you pay there is no place!::ouch:

Good luck

Well done Rowley. The best advice on this page by far. I assure you that there are a number of airlines out there that are very short of crew. Just sending a letter and cv will not get you noticed - do the hard yards (or miles) and speak to people, see them, whatever it takes. Beats paying for that rating and joining the long Q of pilots with no experience on type - its a BIG con.

FAB,

and why don't you have a job?(je vois que tu parles francais aussi, peux tu me conseiller plus sur que faire?)
Do you think really that they cares about how many hours on the airbus you have. You are enployable as you have a license.

SOme guys say to go for a type rating, some guys say to not go for a type rating.!!!

SO , who on this forum have found a job, and who have not found a job?. and please, stop to tell me you know a friend or 2 who, bla bla bla....

we want know about YOU!

The only thing I can tell you concerning my situation is that all airlines operating the A320 replied to me that they require hours on type.
I will pay for the 300 hrs experience on the A320 and I have to wait for 4 to 8 months before starting because some pilots are already waiting...

You see to have missed FAB's point.

You could have a Tr on an airlines type with 10,000hrs PIC but without knowing someone in this market you might as well bend over, look at your hole and kiss it goodbye.

FAB now has a mate in an airline who will now go to the CP and say. "When you need someone, I know a good bloke".

I have just done the same for a mate who has been trying to get into my airline for 5 years and all of a sudden he gets an interview after i had a few "chats" with the CP. The system works!

Your doom and gloom (though understandable) is holding you back.

Make a few buddies with jobs and see the difference it worked for me and many others.

I wish you good luck Spaceman as you sound like you are at your wits end.

kerropi,
funny but true..its not enough to try to get a so called friend just for the sake of getting a foot inside...at least i dont work that way...for the worse and for the best...the so called new friends..mhhh,forget them..i only help those who helped me before or who i trust and who were there during the time i was jobless.not many....

I m getting fed up of those who absolutely need to have connections..i didnt have any,none,zero..it took me 8 months but i made it.Time will come, trust those who trusted you.

Good luck all,

Regards,
