Emirates Interested to Start Up a Low Cost Carrier (LCC)

There is an interview with Tim Clark of Emirates on Bloomberg TV in Germany, where he confirms the airline's intention to start up a Low Cost Operation sometime during the next few years.

However, this will be a LCC like no other, and rather than the usual fodder of A320 and Boeing 737 family aircraft on short to medium haul routes, EK wants Airbus to develop a higher capacity version of the A380, configured in an all-economy layout, and which will be used on dense long haul routes, such as London, New York and Sydney, all non-stop.

The irony of this is that Emirates already is a low cost carrier. It is just that they can provide a full service while doing it. Incredibly low wage base, no unions, and the owners are the same people as the 'government', who make the workplace regulations. How many CEO's throughout the world would dream of that scenario.

What happened to 'The Finest in the Sky'? It is all a pity really isn't it? that Emirates is going down this route. Maybe it's just me being sentimental, but I think that EK going any more low cost than it already is is just asking for trouble. Anyway, where are all the drivers going to come from when we can't even crew the existing airline, let alone another?

talking about the potential uses of the A380 flying all the way to the states having a 2 hour turnaround then heading back using augmented crews!! And him saying that we can crew the aircraft and run it rather like a ships roster 4 hours on 4 off AND Wait for it here comes the real FUNNY PART the money saved from not having to accomodate the crew can go directly into the pilots wallets!!!

And its ok because even though the crew has been on the aircraft for 36 hours WE WILL HAVE SHOWERS so it will be like having a hotel room anyway!!!!!
