View Full Version : Gulf Air A340 Incident in Bangkok / Bahrain Evacuation Upon Landing

6th April

A Gulf Air A340 clipped some trees on departure from BKK on 6th April, after receiving some very late revised departure instructions from BKK tower. There was a last minute runway or taxiway change.

Passengers felt the jolt in the cabin during TO from BKK. The aircraft continued to BAH, but developed a related fault before landing (something to do with excessive vibrations from one engine), resulting in an evacuation upon touch down.

Remarkable that this news never made any of the local press. Sorry if the above is a bit sketchy, but I heard the news third hand.

I can confirm the rumour.
The aircraft was A340-300 MSN097.

Very little known about it in BKK, I guess because the aircraft ontinued to its destination.

No mate you cannot confirm the rumour because the details as outlined by A300 nob head are incorrect. It's been covered extensively on another thread so get the facts right before wandering into territory you know nothing about. A300, you are overstepping the mark on this one and it's not funny. Stick to recording aircraft registrations and listening to air band. Leave the serious stuff to people who know what they are talking about. It used to be humorus to read your rubbish now it's annoying and bordering on slander. There are professional careers at stake here and YOU are spreading scandal not rumors!!

Easy Tiger!

As A300 Man states, he received the news "third hand" and he did apologise if the news was a bit sketchy.

A bit harsh on the reply. To call someone a "nobhead" is tad unfair.

Cheers

I will not rise to the bait and spend any more valuable time in replying to any more of your comments from now on. I have always been gentlemanly and replied humorously or positvely to your previous acidic replies.

I have done the correct thing and reported your post to the Moderator. I do not appreciate being harrassed by you publicly in this way, for simply posting a "rumour" that I heard THIRD OR FOURTH HAND, as outlined in my text above. I did not, at any time or stage, claim to be an expert on any subject, inlcuding the subject encompassed in this current thread.

Your comments and tone are entirely unneccessary and I did not post anything that could be considered slanderous. Please take a few moments to read, digest and understand properly the last sentence of my post.

Good day to you.

VFE...
This is a 'Rumour' network..not soley a display case for AAIB/NTSB investigation reports...although those are extremely welcome when available....

A300 has every right to post something that is of interest to the rest of us, if he missed the parallel thread it's no big deal...
If you have solid facts concerning the incident then feel free to post them...until the facts are available the rumours will suffice...It's no reason for you to froth at the mouth and throw your dummy out of your pram...

Basically...contribute or bug-off....:yuk:

Pistols or swords?

"Nobhead" is hardly an insult that will shake the foundations of this site and to delete it would not have much effect - could we continue with the gist of this thread & resist hurling insults please?

Thanks. 4HP

Exactly what part of the rumour do you dispute:
The aircraft identity?
The fact that it hit trees?
The fact that there was a late runway change?
The fact that there was engine and landing gear damage?
The fact that there was a precautionary evac in BAH?
The fact that it has not made the media in Bangkok?

Those of us who are familar with BKK (and the location of the few trees, and indeed the modest height of them) are somewhat amazed at the event.

The ball's in your court pal.

Ok for the benefit of those too lazy to check out the real thread on this. The aircraft had damage to one brake unit and 2 blades on one engine. The flight continued to BAH because the crew had NO abnormal indications on the flight deck. They believed that they had a tyre burst and so after informing BKK to inspect the runway (nothing found) elected to continue. The landing in BAH was normal with all engines running and fuel reserves in tact. Contrary to nob heads post there was no evac, no eng vib and no drama. Not even a burst tyre! BTW 4HP my preference is for HOB NOBS at dawn! Great with a cup of tea at FL350.

Interesting defence.

None of which addresses the real issue - how and why were the trees clipped?

Nothing interesting of defensive about it. Just the facts as known. I don't recall defending anyone, just asking people to hold judgement til everything is known. It's what you would want if you were the crew involved. Some people here shoot off at the gob when they know nothing about what really happened.

I did not shoot off at the mouth, nor did I make judgements on anyone whatsoever. And, for the bloody umpteenth time, I did actually say that the details I had were sketchy, and that I wasn't in possession of all the facts.

I was hoping you were serious when you said you would not respond to my posts anymore! There you go shooting off again. Have a hob nob and relax!

Sounds like a dose of "pitch-up illusion".

We go fast / we go up (we think) / we push forward

Ooops

The only other reason for not overflying the screen height on 4 engines on a 12,200ft long runway at those temps would be if someone sneaked a herd of elephants into the cargo hold.

Thankyou.

Now, we've all stopped heaving and panting so much, take a swig and again.....

Come on you guys. No-one is perfect. All of us in ANY airline make mistakes, and often. Don't crucify a flight deck crew, unless you know the facts, and as a normal, line- pilot it is not your position to do it in the first place. If ANYONE is THAT good, then why not wear 5 bars on your shoulder, and pretend you are an astrounaut. Perhaps the guys were TIRED, who knows?
Hopefully ALL of us can learn from this sort of situation, but to run-down a Capt and his F/Oand the crew, when you were not there, is totally unfair. Rumours are one thing, facts are another.

Have to agree with Tic..let the facts come out...speculation has reached the point of absurdity here....GF are not hiding anything from those whose business it is....GF pilots who stand to learn from this occurrence...so let it lie for a while folks...

Has there been any further news regarding this incident?

Has there been an official report yet on the A34-300 overrun accident at Johannesburg (that only landed back because the gear wouldn't retract - amongst other things).?

Or does Emirates only report accidents in-house for their own crews' benefit?
