Johannesburg - Two security guards employed by Denel Aviation were arrested early on Saturday for the theft of compressed aluminium, stored at the company's premises near Johannesburg International Airport.

The aluminium is used to make aircraft parts.

North Rand police spokeswoman Superintendent Sophie Mayisela said security cameras had filmed the two driving a Denel minibus around the property.

The vehicle had been parked where it was not supposed to have been, prompting an investigation.

Iron filings were found around the minibus, she added.

"We expect more arrests tonight," she said.

Mayisela said the aluminium recovered was worth R1.2 million.
