'Ol Gunss was downing a beer last Saturday in the Kalahari when a fancy Gyrocopter flew over the camp (2 Rivieren).

Anybody knows who it is / what type it is ?

Looks very sleeky and funky and fancy - slim body line and quite fast.

Would be interesting to find out more about it.

Yeah it was only the 6th beer - it was NOT a C150 mate :E

Some guys flying Gyro's out of Solitude, a private field south of Joburg, have done regular trips to the Kalahari and Swakop. A whole tribe of guys with mainly kits and homebuilts do a Kalahari bundu bash annually.

Some good photo's of one of the trips were published in SA Flyer.
Guy by the name Kevin Katzke published his story. They fly via the Engen one stops for fuel and go about 5 hours at 90 Knots.
Landing and takeoff on the truck stop concrete. Land at the Vioolsdrif border post for passports, push the gyro through and off you go!!

Went for a spin with this guy and was pleasantly surprised.
Gyros built by Butch Brown out of a Mica hardware in Westonarea.

it was the blades chomping that attracted me from looking up from my (cold) lager mate - not the lawnmower engine :8
