This record must be the hardest tune to get out of your head, been singing it all week, great video with Peter Kay, let hope it is the top seller of the year and makes a change from the usual crap in the charts.

touch and go..Are you mad or what? The song was crap 20 years ago and just because some second rate comic is singing on it, doesn't make it any better.

Yes, it's infuriatingly inside your head once you've heard it but for gods sake, don't add to our misery any more by going out and buying it. The sooner it leaves the charts, the better.

Oh for chrissakes. This isn't a direct attack at you T&G

This is the very crux to the argument the British music industry at the moment is shite. Bloody cover version, remake, re-release after another after another. No originality, nothing earth shatteringly good...................nothing. It's just manufactured commercialistic (is that a word?) garbage being fed to the population

And the sadder thing is that the population are buying it.

Superb record and video.....and proceeds go to a good cause...lest ye forget.

It's all in the best possible taste!

Oh by the way Jerricho , I'm looking forward to the follow up release as well...."I Did What I Did for Maria" mimed by Tyrone from Coronation Street.

Since it currently sits at the top I can do no harm (except to take the bait), so can I just say

Now, for  sake don't anyone post here any more and all memory of it will go away.

"I Did What I Did for Maria" mimed by Tyrone from Coronation Street.

Now, as Corrie was banned from the Jerricho household, I haven't got a clue who you're talking about. But it sounds dreadful.

Jerricho, thank goodness someone else feels the same about Corobloodynationstreet. Used to be reasonably good entertainment some years ago, now it's utter drivel in which it seems the more recent scriptwriters attempt to come up with ever more awful domestic situations to exploit. I sit in the other room if someone's watching it because I can't even bear to listen to it these days.

The ultimate Matt Monro often sings his heart out to camouflage the so-called actors' voices screaming at each other. Walk Away, he sings, so I do. Yes, I remember Matt, let alone Tony Christie! :ok:

Superb record and video

The video is very amusing ... I assume it is on the CD. Let's face it, no-one would buy the thing if it wasn't for the video - how often do you hear people talk about "oh, I love that video", rather than the merits (or not) of the song. As the late George Harrysong said, the good thing about most of these videos (especially those rap/hip-hop monotonies) is that you can turn the sound down....

Would anyone mind awfully if I bring some facts to the proceedings? ;)

"Amarillo" featrured in series 2 of Phoenix Nights - Max and Paddy sang along with it in the minibus.... Hence the song became associated with the show.

The current "version" is actually the original, Peter Kay mimes on the video, and the song itself has always gone down really well at discos, before the Comic Relief thing...

And we go back to the top!! :E :E

Do you know the way to St. Tropez?
I never have been there
I'd like to be there and go bare
Do you know the way to St. Tropez?
Maybe I'll wear a thong, a little thong in St. Tropez

Got to fly over the ocean
Got to feel some sun and see some waves
All my dimes and nickels I've gotta save
When I get there I won't need a car with gas
Cause I'll be playing on the beach and very likely burn my ass

I might make some friends in St. Tropez
Wo oh oh oh oh.......
Can't wait til I get to St. Tropez
Wo oh oh oh oh....
Do you know the way to St. Tropez?

So Evanelpus, since you're so critical of this song, what would you like to see at the top of the charts? Sandy Shaw - Puppet on a String/Max Bygraves - Deck of Cards/The Chicken Song/Chas & Dave/one of Mr Callow's prodigies maybe? - do tell!

IB 4138 - Who was born in Stockport then? Neither TC nor PK. Tony Christie was born in Conisborough Yorks, and lived in Sheffield during the 80s.

Remember folks, it's just a bit of fun in a good cause. Catchy tunes are just like buses - there'll be another one along soon.

By the way, Tony Christie used to be very interested in aviation, and took flying lessons with a view to getting a PPL. Don't know whether he made it eventually though.

Agadoo-doo-doo, push pineapple, shake the tree,

Come and dance every night, sing with the hula melody.

Just in case you didn't know the words and wanted to sing along:

Sha la la lala lalala
Sha la la lala lalala
Sha la la lala lalala

When the day is dawningon a Texas Sunday morning
how I long to be there
with Marie who's waiting for me there
every lonely city where I hang my hat
ain't as half as pretty as where my baby's at

Is this the way to Amarillo
every night I've been hugging my pillow
dreaming dreams of Amarilloand sweet Marie who waits for me
show me the way to Amarillo
I've been weeping like a willow
crying over Amarillo
and sweet Marie who waits for me

Sha la la lala lalala Sha la la lala lalala
Sha la la lala lalala and Marie who waits for me

There's a church bell ringing
hear the song of joy that it's singing
for the sweet Mariaand the guy who's coming to see her
just beyong the highway, there's an open plain
and it keeps me going through the wind and rain

Is this the way to Amarillo
every night I've been hugging my pillow
dreaming dreams of Amarilloand sweet Marie who waits for me
show me the way to Amarillo
I've been weeping like a willow
crying over Amarillo
and sweet Marie who waits for me

Sha la la lala lalala Sha la la lala lalala
Sha la la lala lalala and Marie who waits for me

I thought it was an OK tune and it has it's merits for raising money for charity.

But NOT when your neighbour plays it at 60dB and has all his kids singing along to it.

Hopefully at the volume at which it was played he will have buggered his new surround system.

My now ex(undecided) partner also loves the song. Her kids bought it as a present for Mother's Day - do they not like her or am I missing something ?

VP8, That is only 'one' way to sweet marie. So lets keep singing!!

Gouabafla;
That's all very well VP8 but where does Marie live? If I may answer that for you with a bit of a clue;

"Is this the way to Amarillo
Every night I've been hugging my pillow
Dreaming dreams of Amarillo where sweet Marie who waits for me"

I am no Columbo, but she either lives there or is just waiting for Tony there. If it is the latter, who knows?

It doesn't really matter, as according to Tonys other song about her, I Did What I Did For Maria, she's dead anyway.
So she doesn't live anywhere!!!

What is most worrying is the reason why Tony is really hugging/biting his pillow.
