Maybe not a L39. One of my colleagues enroute from Newcastle back to Durban said he heard some action on the radio about a helicopter, presumably an Alouette 2 that crashed in the Harrismith area. I don't have more detail though. Anyone else know?

That would be an Alouette III, see thread on this topic...

From another forum

The other engine failure apparently was Ralf Dominiqe(sorry if i spelled it wrong) with a L29 he landed safely.
He had an engine flame out and had to do a forced landing.

Strange how stories get changed, but that's why this is called a rumour network. It was a L29 which had a flameout while flying in formation at approx FL130 overhead Hendrina Power Station. Ralf did a brilliant job of putting it down without damage until going through a fence some idiot left across the runway. Well done Ralf

Hey Guys,

Just a couple of questions. I have been to Rand Airport and thought it was like a large airport where they land decent size aircraft so what the heck was a fence doing across the runway there??????

erm I don't think he actually did the forced lob at Rand, from the sounds of it he did it in some unmanned airfield:confused:

Hendrina Power Station is about 80nm east of Rand Airport.
Do not know glide ratio of L29 but I think not fro L130.

However lots of small airstrips(crop spraying) in the area.

Hope this clears your question PR
