View Full Version : Remacc.Surveil

Hope you folks can help with this. Recently when running scans I keep getting Remacc.Surveil showing up in a registry key, I duly remove it but hey presto it's back the next day.

Did a bit of googling and came up with http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/remacc.surveil.html

According to the info on this link it says the program has to be manualy installed, well I didn't.

Now the second part. I'm using BPS spyware which, according to the info here http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm is rogue spyware.

Any help or suggestions would be very welcome.

Cheers all

There are a couple of pages containing information and instructions on how to get rid of it - it looks like it could be a lot more complicated than just deleting one registry key !

There may be a simple answer if the program "e-Surveiller" is listed in "Add/Remove Programs" then you should be able to uninstall it like any other program :D

The information and removal instructions can be found here :Earthlink (http://esd.element5.com/publisher/50364/proxy.cgi/62438/avcenter/venc/data/remacc.surveil.html)

Let us know how you get on - it also looks like you might need Norton Antivirus Version 5 or later with the latest virus definitions to complete the job.

Good luck :ok:

Thanks for that Coconutty, I had a read through the link you posted. It confirms the info on the Symantec link I found. I've checked through my program files folder and found no sign of it. I've also gone through the procedures mentioned in the link so the system should be clean.

The only thing I can do is wait and see, but if it runs true to form then it will re appear.

Again, thanks for the info.

BPS is classed as rogue spyware by some anti-spyware programs, because the engine behind it was copied from a legitimate anti-spyware program.

Thanks for that ZH875, and as predicted in my earlier post the bloody thing has returned. I'm really puzzled by this as I've not touched the PC since this mornings post, I've been out all day yet it still seems to keep coming back.

Am I confused?, you bet.

BW,

have a look here (http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html) and you'll find a load of stuff to help with the sort of problem you seem to have. I'd recommend downloading HiJack This! ver 1.99.1 first though and posting the resulting log here so we can have a look at it.

When you post the log, remember to disable smilies first.

Thanks BW.

First, I can't see anything that's making me worry too much.

There are a couple of obvious ones that just need tidying up:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.ebay.co.uk/MainUKC1.html

I reckon you only need one of them.
and:

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant =
R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing

plus:
O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {CD67F990-D8E9-11d2-98FE-00C0F0318AFE} - (no file)

I'll have alook at a couple of others when I get back in tonight.

Just one other thought, did you install HJT to the desktop? If so it would be better to install it to it's own folder in, say, the C:\Temp\HJT and run it again.

There may be a couple of other steps such as switching off Restore and starting up in Safe Mode, but I'm not sure they would help here. Although, it might be worthwhile starting in safe mode with networking enabled and seeing if you can reach the update pages that way.

Take care.

Hi again Softop

Did you notice anything untoward in the second scan?

It looks a bit more comprehensive. I have to apologise though because I'm about to disappear for a couple of days. If it can wait, I'll have a go through it when I get back. Probably Tuesday night.

If anyone else could help, please feel free.

Hi again SoftTop. I had a look at the links you posted and tried a couple of suggestions but to no avail, the bloody thing just keeps coming back.

Fdisk is starting to look like a good option.

Hope you or someone on here can help.

Thanks for that Mike. Having read through the info on the links you sent it appears that the root of the problem may be the BPS spyware I'm using.

Just gets more confusing
