Man of Steel Brandon Routh touched down in Tamworth on Tuesday night, joined by 80-year-old Oscar-winner Eva Marie Saint to begin filming the latest Superman film.

Arriving at Tamworth Regional Airport, the little-known Routh and Saint flew in on a F28 Skywest plane and were quickly whisked away in a 4WD by minders.

They were believed to have been taken to a nearby hotel to rest before shooting begins on Superman Returns, a prequel to the two hit 1980s films based on the super-powered character.

"We're here to film for a couple of weeks," producer Chris Lee told local Tamworth newspaper The Northern Daily Leader.

"Everyone involved in the film is very excited about filming in this area."

A buff 25-year-old Routh was signed to star in the reincarnation of Superman, due to hit screens in 2006, following an exhaustive search for an actor to fill the role made famous by Christopher Reeve, who died last year.

The Warner Bros movie will be directed by Bryan Singer, who also made the hit comic book hero X-Men movies and has been in Australia for the past few months.

Skywest operate the F-100 jets as well as F-50 turboprops.
The F-100 looks similar to an F-28 in that it has 2 rear mounted engines, but thats about it. What surprises me is how far EAST Tamworth is for SkyWEST. Just a bit across the WA border eh?

one of Skywest's F100's is on lease to Alliance at the moment so is based in the east, but still in full XR colours...maybe that was it on a charter?

Technically, the F-100 is called an F28 Mk 0100. Probably something to do with the type certificate.
