Pilots have doubts
on airline sell-off

MEXICO CITY - The Mexican airline pilots' union said Monday that a proposed sell-off of the country's main airlines won't solve the problems of the carriers, which have been losing market share for more than a decade.

The government plans to sell off its two-thirds stake in Cintra, the holding company for top domestic carriers Aeromexico and Mexicana.

Cintra plans to sell Aeromexico together with regional unit Aerolitoral. Mexicana and assets of its unit Aerocaribe will be sold along with a new low-cost carrier.

A study conducted by Roland Berger consultants for the pilots association showed Cintra has lost 8.2 percentage points of domestic market share and 7.2 percentage points of international market share since 2000.
