Running landings leave a lot of rotorwash way behind....can touch down up to 60 knots if you got the courage! Whats more fun is a running takeoff from the water. (Do not let yer bossfellah catch you at it!) At Fort Rucker, Wokka's used to tow lots of water skiers until done in front of the Officers Mess looking out over the lake when His Nibs was present. We then moved to Lake Eufaula north of Rucker for that....and done convertly.

Steering on the water can be done the same as on land including the use of power steering....bit less responsive than by using the pedals.

With the ramp lid open....DO NOT LAND MOVING REARWARDS! The power to hover increases dramatically...and when all that water runs out the rear end when you run out of forward cyclic is a sight! I care not to imagine what it would look like running out the forward cabin doors and the pilots windows! It would probably require the sounding of a Klaxon and someone hollering "Dive, Dive, Dive" in the background.

Another rare thrill is to leave the lower watertight cargo hatch open when doing your first landing on the water for the day....you get a real sinking sensation combined with a geyser like Old Faithful at mid-cabin! (....so I have been told mind you)

Yep, you can fit dams and stuff to the rear cabin of UK Chinooks for water landings... haven't done it myself though.

Razor as TR points out we used to play with boats but only on fresh water. If you intended to open the boot you had to fit a water dam halfway up the cabin and make sure the centre hook hole was all closed up.
Did a little work with the aussies too. Got some very good VHS film but dont know how to put it on the pooter.
Tend to agree with F&F and TW though. Even on a 00 approach I would expect to see a lot more downwash and he appears to have a lot of left wing down. Also that seems to be a hell of a splash which I cant figure unless he has just thrown somthing out of the boot which we cant see.
