Canadian Press report Woman dies at scene after crash of helicopter in Fraser Valley
ABBOTSFORD, B.C. - A helicopter crashed Sunday trying to take off in a rural part of the Fraser Valley and a woman was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Const. Shinder Kirk of the Abbotsford police department said emergency crews went to the scene at about 11 a.m. and found two men administering first aid to a 22-year-old woman who was later pronounced dead at the scene.
The two men were not part of the copter flight but had responded to the crash, said police.
Kirk said the helicopter had been trying to take off when it apparently rolled onto its side.
There is a "suspicious element " to the accident, said Kirk because police are not sure who was the pilot of the copter or if the left the scene.
Transportation Safety Board officials were also at the scene.
One witness working at a nearby farm said she heard a loud explosion and saw chunks of the helicopter fly over her head before landing in some bushes.
