hello,

some years (1999) ago i travelled from fra to bkk with royal brunei, and it was a rather unpleasant experience: very crowded 767, no possibility to sleep because of a stopover in dubai, and they didn't dim the lights after serving the second meal, but showed a lot of rather bad films. they don't serve alcohol, and stay away from the alcohol-free-rose-sparkling-wine, it is horrible.

back to fra stopover in abu dhabi: after accelerating for maybe 1km they stopped the attempt to take off, turned left to the taxyway, some mechanics arrived and 1/2 an hour later we took off to fra. this alone is no problem i think, but one week later a friend of mine also travelling back to fra told me they took off but returned to abu dhabi, and this time it took the mechanics about two hours.

but maybe it was just bad luck, or maybe they changed during the last years...

Flew to Brisbane with them 2 years ago for xmas. No real problems, but packed to Abu Dhabi (or whichever of those places it refuels at), then about 50% full, so plenty of room to stretch out, some lucky ******s even managed to get a row of 4 in the middle to stretch out on.

No delays to the flight, food OK, dry but you can take your own on (wine box remnants are ideal).

In summary, a flight like any other, no better or worse than Gulf Air, Malaysian, Garuda or any other cheap long haul carrier.

Let me please just insert my $0.02
Malasyian and Garuda are in fact very good carriers service wise. I would say that their service is well in line with the best standarts. And they are not that dry!

I did Per/Brunei/Dxb and Dxb/Calcutta/Sin/Brunei/Per last March. Hey it was cheap!:O

Old 767, packed to the rafters, awful movie, uncomfortable and no booze to numb the pain.:{

Then again you get what you pay for!

exactly, all are pretty equal in terms of service, especially when you're in the cheap seats. The best long haul I've done was in Singapore Air, the worst, by a long way, was Royal Nepal Airlines. Even Aeroflot was reasonable, apart from an unexpected 22 hour stopover in Novosibersk when an engine failed on taxiing after refueling. However, better an extra 22 hours than it failing 5 minutes later!

Short haul, I like SAS now they have the economy flex, but I think BA are over priced and cutting back too much on the LHR-ABZ route.

However, once you're sitting in that long tube, it really doesn't make much difference.

I work in Brunei so fly them quite frequently.

They have started to upgrade the fleet of 767's and are over half way through I believe. They have binned first class and now have lay-flat seats in business and in seat screens throughout.
still packed to the rafters as there so cheap.

Still cant get alchohol, but can take your own on board which they dont mind as long as you keep it discreet(ish).

I believe they just got a load of Airbus's for there short haul stuff as well.

Cheers
